I’ve had a couple people who have had success buying or selling a coupe on this site ask if I would accept small finders or sellers fees. Of course I’ll accept, but do not feel in any way obligated. M Coupes are a passion of mine and while this site takes quite a bit of work to maintain, I really do enjoy all of it.

Guarantee: All money donated to this site will never be used to pay for time, web hosting, etc. It will all be deposited directly into my “Coupe Fund”.

I looked at this one in Chicago , but found that it had Frame damage and also Subframe issue when I had it checked at the dealership .

Thought it was good one and the seller agreed for $14K , but looking at the comments from the dealer , the cost of fixing the frame and sub frame is large .

Unless some one knows a good bodyshop to get it fixed , it would be a good deal to negotiate more as I have also notified about the damage to the seller

Thanks for the update Ravi. It could still be an ok deal for the right person. Randy Forbes subframe repair kit is about $3k installed.

Bought the Coupe from Chicago and drove it back to Dallas this weekend.
Paid $14K for it . Needs some TLC and should be O.K after that .

Thanks for your research and keep up the good work .
FYI , I can be found on Bimmerforums as Sam355

    Jon,
I typed in two email addresses above and lost my whole message, so this is attempt 2.

I hope this finds you still enjoying your steel gray beauty.

It’s been almost a year since test driving the 2001 black on black in NJ. I saw where it was relisted and sold again.

This time I’m looking at the emeril blue salvage title coupe in Southern Pines, NC. I’ve sent the owner an email and expressed an interest in seeing the car and asked a few questions about it.

Judging from the comment that the interior was removed to replace the wiring harness, coupled with the salvage title, I’m thinking that the car was flooded or submerged.

In any case, I’m wondering if you have any candid thoughts about that car you’d be willing to share about the described setup and any suggestions for what I should look for if I manage to schedule a viewing. (beyond those you shared on the car’s page)

    At your convenience,

    Michael

    Jon,
I just put my Coupe up for sale. No rush, but I’m planning for a ‘family addition’ and the Coupe isn’t too well suited to that duty. I used your site to find my car and I appreciate your work.

Just re-listed my Dakar yellow II, 2000 on Craig’s List, which is currently listed here in ‘coupe purgatory’. A major restructuring in life’s grand plan is forcing me to say goodbye.

Just had a PPI done on this car: http://listings.mcoupebuyersguide.com/listing.aspx?ListingID=280 which found the following:

Extensive subframe repair at the front of the car after a major collison. Can’t how well the frame was repaired without getting the car on an alignment rack but the steering wheel is out of alignment at this time. It’s not clear whether the car was also hit in the rear (rear bumper has been repainted) or if the collision was so violent that the entire car was twisted. The rear quarter panels are misaligned and the hatch is skewed to one side (not at the top but very visible at the bottom – suggests twisting.) The car has a noise when going over bumps that’s coming from the passenger’s rear area but isn’t being caused by the RSMs. The car exhibits a slight vibration at highway speeds.

The following needs to be replaced:
    front calipers
    engine air filter
    rear hatch struts
    seat sliders
    coolant
    M-mobility cartridge
    floor mats
    rearview mirror
Inspection I in a few months

The car has holes in the front and rear carpet where the rollbar was previously installed. No CD changer or amp are present.
Brake pads in the front are racing pads and squeal in routine driving.
Dent in door cannot be removed by PDR
    Tires have 50% treadwear remaining

  13. John Dowen
    April 25th, 2011 at 16:13 | #24

Forgot to mention that the rollbar/cage and racing seats are no longer in the car.

Some more information about this car: http://listings.mcoupebuyersguide.com/listing.aspx?ListingID=280

As per the original owner, the car was in a very large accident when it was hit in the right rear, sent into a spin and then into a concrete highway barrier. The right rear, left rear, left front, front subframe and suspension were all damaged. The car was written off as a total loss/salvage by the insurance company due to the extensive damage.

That makes more sense than what the current seller has been describing and accounts for the badly misaligned rear panels, the noise coming from the rear suspension, the repair to the front frame and the horribly twisted rear hatch.

Also, the rear bumper was replaced as well. Didn’t remember if the front bumper or hood were also replaced.

    Jon,
Your site is outstanding and was instrumental in helping me find my M Coupe so I owe you some big thanks. So THANKS!
On Monday, May 9th we got up at 5:30 AM and my lovely wife, 10 year old daughter and I were on the road by 6:00 AM to go look at this car. The owner agreed to meet us part way but that was still a 6 hour one-way drive for us.
Saw the car and of course it was love at first site. We inspected the car, went for a test drive, made some negotiations and soon were headed back home….my wife in our SUV and my 10 year old daughter and me in our new M Coupe. 🙂
After the 6 hour drive home my girls were pretty tired and I am very thankful for them indulging me in 15 hours of driving so I could get ANOTHER car. They’re the greatest!

    http://listings.mcoupebuyersguide.com/listing.aspx?ListingID=348

I am at work now so I will post more about the car later. From my preliminary reseach I think the car if fairly rare. Not mentioned in the ad, it is a Sunroof-Delete car making it 1 of 10. It is also a Canadian market car that has subtle difference from US cars making it 1 of 4.
Maybe you can help confirm that Jon?

    Thanks,
    Brian

    • May 12th, 2011 at 12:32 | #36

Congrats on the new M Coupe and thanks for the story! My son is only 3, so it will be a while before he can legally ride in mine which makes us both sad. I didn’t even notice that it was a sunroof-delete because it wasn’t mentioned and the photos weren’t added until a few days later. Nice find!

It looks like your numbers are correct.

32 Total in Arctic Silver over Imola Red (4 for Canada)
10 Sunroof Delete (3 for Canada)

There’s technically only 8 sunroof-deletes though as two of them were pre-production model year 1998s, and I haven’t confirmed that they were ever released for public sale. Congrats again on a rare coupe!

    Jon,

I’m the new lucky owner of a 2000 M Coupe. It came with some custom wheels and I’d like to go back to the OEM’s. Do you know the color description for the 2000 Roadstar’s? Is it Hyper Silver?

Also, can you recommend a good wheel refurbisher where I can purchase?

Love your sight. Very helpful in my search.

    Thanks, Arnie

    • May 24th, 2011 at 05:20 | #38

Congrats on your new coupe! You are correct; S52 roadstars are hyper silver. Your best bet would probably be to watch craigslist and Bimmerforums classifieds as roadstars in good shape come up for sale all the time when their owners get different wheels. It will be much cheaper than from a wheel refurbisher.

    Update on this one: http://listings.mcoupebuyersguide.com/listing.aspx?ListingID=108

After speaking to the seller, he sounded EXTREMELY sketchy. No clue as to when or if the car was actually getting shipped to CA. Will ONLY accept cash (no bank/cashier’s checks) and will not allow a PPI. Will be listing on Ebay so a buyer will have to commit without a PPI.

No pictures available of the replaced hood, driver’s side fender or driver’s side door. Seller also claims to have recently re-damaged the hood. Refuses to take pictures but will take a video and capture frames when he has time.

    • May 30th, 2011 at 08:59 | #40

He is legit, just not easy to work with. I talked to him and several of his potential buyers last time around. I was also forwarded about 100MB of videos of the exterior and interior which looked pretty good at the time. I’m not sure why he couldn’t do photographs which would have been cleaner and better quality. The lack of PPI is annoying. I’ve heard the Hawaii BMW dealers are basically worthless though. The re-damaged hood is news to me too.

I test drove this and also took it into a shop to get an inspection (Haurys collision, great place).
    http://listings.mcoupebuyersguide.com/listing.aspx?ListingID=493

    The bad:
    Head gasket leaking slightly
    Needs new brakes all around
Weird, very very ugly piece of wood glued to the dash. Needs new dash from what I can tell
Needs new clutch and possibly shifter. Does not shift easily
Tires bald, dangerously so (worst on inside rear) Careful test driving this one
    Center console very loose
All tools and tow hook missing
Trim rubber around driver door in bad shape
Airbag light was on (reset by mechanic, probably nothing but worth noting)
Interior panel in trunk is really loose
Steering pulls a bit at higher speeds
Shifting knob just sits on shaft. Not attached
Both doors don’t close quite right. Just a little off

    The good:
Body looks to be in good shape. Was raining (of course), but couldn’t really see any scratches other than under the front bumper
No cracks on the subframe. Has not been reinforced. There are a few extra tack welds, but the mechanic didn’t see how they would really help
Even with all these problems it was still fun to drive and I would buy it if the price were correct.

I’ll take another look at the report and update this if I forgot something.
The other person that wrote about this car gave very good feedback. I got the dealer down from 18995 to 18400. He is stubborn even for a used car salesman. I imagine this will stay on the lot for a very long time sadly.

    • February 11th, 2012 at 15:30 | #95

Thanks a lot for the update Doug. Sounds like it could definitely use some TLC. If it were in great shape, the price would be fair, but it sounds like this could use some TLC. It’s too bad they are not willing to negotiate a little more since it’s been on their lot so long already.
