Here are the cars that appear to have gone to lucky new owners this week.
I just received word that my new M Coupe is in route! It left the dealership in Delaware and should hopefully be to me by Thursday or Friday. I first saw it and called on it on the morning of July 24th and made the decision to purchase it a few days later, so it’s been a long wait. Gambacorta Motors has been very helpful and easy to work with. The long delay is from a combination of my credit union wanting the actual title in hand, there being an existing lien on it, and the previous owner’s bank having to get the title to my credit union. The one plus side to it was that my credit union dropped their rates 0.75% the night before I closed the loan saving me a few hundred over the life of the loan.
So what have I been doing in the meantime? Preparation. Comparing the coupe’s arrival to that of one of my children is quite a stretch, but I have noticed some similarities.
Current Garage Resident
First, it needs somewhere to sleep. We re-arranged the garage to make sure it will have plenty of space with no danger of falling objects. I had been contemplating it for a couple months and pretty much everything fit where I hoped it would. While not decked out and decorated like out kids’ rooms, it has been swept and leaf-blown. Hopefully next summer I’ll get to painting and sealing the floor and maybe some wall posters for decoration. Now, I’ll just have to convince my son Breyton to move his parking spot over a few more feet.
Second, it needs insurance. One of the first things to do after having a child is make sure your insurance is covering them. The same applies here (although by law). I called and talked to our agent before purchasing it and have arranged “stated-value coverage” rather than the piddling KBB amount they would normally cover in the event something should happen. My insurance agent is just waiting for my call to activate it.
Next, I’ll probably take it over to my neighbor’s shop for it’s first check-up. It’s already had a recent service and inspection performed, but I’ll want a look underneath myself.
Well, that’s probably where the similarities end. Counting the days…

Here are the cars that appear to have gone to lucky new owners this week. Almost all of them were 1999s, and I don’t know what any of them actually sold for.
There are quite a few coupes listed on my site that are marketed exclusively on Craigslist. When the Craigslist ads expire (deleted is more obvious), I have no idea if they sold or people just forgot to renew them. Most Craigslist ads don’t include contact information besides the temporary Craigslist email address that expires with the ad. There are other instances when one ad is removed, but other ads are still there and not marked as sold.
I consider these coupes “status unknown” and don’t want them to clutter the more active listings as most of these listings are kind of worthless without any way to contact the seller anymore. While I hate to put any coupes in purgatory, they have either sold, been taken off the market by their sellers, or the seller is just not trying very hard.
You’ll notice that the number of coupe listings appeared to drop significantly the other day. There was not a big sell-off; these coupes were just moved to the newly created “Coupe Purgatory” where they will stay until I find out what became of them. I’d appreciate it if you could look through and see if you know the status of any of them one way or the other. Thanks for your help.
