Hi, not a comment but I do have a question if you would be so kind…… there was a 2001 Z3 Coupe hatchback recently sold in Houston Texas (still posted on the web) …. a photo of the rear of the car shows only one muffler on the drivers side… and no cut-out for a passenger side muffler…what is this car? presumably not an M?
Love your site…. am currently on the hunt…. I’m in Canada…. and there are very few here…. looking for the S54 engine if possible…. I love the one in Ancaster… lovely car and nicely maintained/modded…. BUT… In your estimation…how much difference is there in driving experience between the S52 and the S54?…. I have never driven either car.
You are correct, only the M Coupes have two mufflers with quad tips, the non-M Z3 coupes have two tips on a single side. Here are the differences: http://www.mcoupebuyersguide.com/index.php/2010/05/honorable-mention-the-non-m-coupe/. It seems as though you’ll pay a pretty decent premium on an M Coupe in Canada, especially if it’s an original Canadian coupe rather than one imported from the U.S. In day to day driving under 80-100 mph, there is not a huge difference in speed between the S52 and S54. Once you are past that point, the S54 is a whole different animal. The S54 will require a decent amount more maintenance, but most people think it’s worth it if they can swing the opening prices. It’s also more rare and therefore more collectible. Good luck with your search!
