Seller Description

Up for sale is my 2002 M Coupe
It is finished in Imola Red over Imola and Black interior.
Miles are at 76262 currently and I expect that figure to climb slightly as this is not a daily driver.

I have owned the car since 2007 with about 58K miles and have modified it to suit my taste.

The bearing recall was performed at the dealership prior to my ownership
The complete inspection II was done at the dealership under my ownership, including the valve adjustment.
The subframe is perfect. I have it inspected every time the car goes up on a lift, and is located by Ireland Engineering “green” bushings to minimize lateral movement.

When I purchased the car it was bone stock with the exception of a Dinan ECU flash.
My goal for modding the car was to have a weekend toy that would look great, be comfortable on the street, and not embarrass itself at the occasional DE event (I can do that without any assistance!)

I first wanted to baseline the car to my standard, so it went to the dealer for the complete Inspection II at 60k. TWS, Plugs, Fuel filter, valve adjustment and throttle sync. In addition I also had the coolant, brake/clutch fluid, trans and diff fluid replaced with OEM, ATE, and Redline products in that order.

The next project was a suspension refresh/upgrade. I installed the KW V1 coilovers at about 62K and at the same time did the Ireland Engineering rear subframe bushings, upgraded to E36 M3 front control arm bushings, and installed E 46 rear shock mounts for peace of mind.

After being able to lower the car to a more appropriate height, I then installed the I-Forged Senekas in an 18x8 in front and 18x10 in the rear. I had the faces painted semi gloss black and the barrels polished, I went through a couple sets of tires before finding I liked the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric tires the best. They are literally brand new having covered less than 300 miles, and in a very aggressive 245/275 size combo. I still have the stock Roadstars with fairly fresh Contisport Contact2s mounted.

I then installed a lightweight Magnaflow exhaust, but after a few months, realized it was a bit too aggressive for me, and as luck would have it a CCA member was selling a Dinan exhaust. I scooped it up and installed it, while painting the cans black to help the asthetics of the Dinan system, which honestly don’t look as good as the Magnaflows. I have both systems, so I suppose the next owner could pick one or the other depending on personal preference. The Dinan system worked great during the 500 mile drive to Oktoberfest in Atlanta, preserving my hearing and ultimately what is left of my sanity. I also had the car thouroughly inspected for the trip, and replaced the drivetrain fluids, coolant and TWS.

I change the oil in the car using TWS exclusively, and maintain a 5K or 12 month interval.

At said Oktoberfest, I purchased a Wilwood front BBK from the fine folks at UUC. Not that my Coupe braked badly, but I wanted to show off the gaps between the spokes of my front wheels a bit better.
With Wilwoods installed along with stainless lines and ATE Super Blue, I have brakes strong enough to invoke abs with a sticky 245 front tire at highway speeds.

Along the way I decided to upgrade the sound of my coupe. My criteria was: Lightweight, crisp clean sound, nothing visible besides the headunit and sub box.

I chose the Alpine 9857 for the ability to control my Ipod with the unit, and wired the ipod cable into the glove box. The MB Quart PSD components hide behind the stock speaker grills and relay the sound from the old school Phoenix Gold US built amplifier. The amp also powers a single 12 inch Stereo Integrity sub mounted in a sealed box in the cargo area that can be removed from the vehicle in 30 seconds if the need arises.

To improve the exterior more to my liking, I installed black grills in the hood, and black stone guards on the rear fenders. The guards are magnets and are removed during every hand wash before being cleaned themselves prior to reapplication. I also applied yellow Lamin-X to the lights and had the housings retrofitted with 5K low beam HIDs. Looks very “ALMS” when seen from the mirror of the driver in front of you. All of these can be removed quite simply with the simplest of hand tools should the new owner have taste that differs from mine.

Other than the above mentioned audio components, the only interior modification has been a silver/alcantera illuminated shift knob from LeatherZ.

The car's exterior is in generally good shape. The front end does have stone chips associated with pleasurable driving. It is not terrible and could be easily repainted, but I have chosen not to do so as if it is perfect, then instead of enjoying the drive, I will worry about every bug/ stone/dump truck I encounter. Again it is inexpensive to have the bumper repainted if the new owner does not share my philosophy.

I use a variety of products to care for the exterior and interior of my car. Currently I am fond of Speed Clay, Maguire’s 26 and Wolfgang 3.0 for the exterior of the car. I do use a Porter Cable Orbital Buffer with the appropriate pad when the need arises. For the interior I have Leatherique, BMW Leather Care, and Maguire’s Professional Leather Conditioner that I alternate between.

The windows are tinted and the car lives in a garage so no issues with dry rot- I gummi pfledge the rubbers and use 1Z protectant on the dash so everything remains fresh.

That about covers it. I have nothing to hide, and can even provide any prospective purchasers the contact information of the folks who bought my previous cars (E34 M5, E39 M5, E36 M3, E39 528i, E320 CDI among others) Selling because I think it is time to move on to a 996 TT. Pre purchase inspections from a qualified BMW specialist are welcome. I am fairly well known in the local BMW community and hopefully some of the folks who have seen this car in person would not mind adding their $.02
Anyone else, Please contact me at g50carerra@ hotmail.com.

The car will sell with both sets of wheels and tires and both sets of exhausts for $24k.

Thank you for looking, and thanks to all that assisted me in creating this ad.

My Comments

Sold 12/20/11 - Sale pending

11/30/11 Update - Added a photo of the impressively good condition driver seat.

This coupe has obviously been well cared for. Having the rod bearings and Inspection II done are big plusses. The Magnaflow exhausts definitely do look better than the Dinans, but I bet the Dinans sound a lot better (and quieter). The ride height looks just right to me, and the black wheels look pretty good on imola red. If his upgrades are to your taste, then this is a steal as you could never replicate it for the money. If they're not to your taste, the seller provides most of the parts you need to make it look more stock-ish.
