2002 BMW M Coupe in Steel Gray Metallic over Dark Gray & Black Nappa
  • Exterior Color Steel Gray Metallic
  • Interior Color Dark Gray & Black Nappa
  • Engine S54

Seller Description

Steel gray metallic over black-and-gray interior with sunroof, one of 24 cars produced in 2002 with this color and equipment combination. Factory remote keyless entry and alarm. The factory cassette receiver was installed in place of the factory CD receiver, and a factory manual-dimming rearview mirror was installed in place of the factory auto-dimming mirror to avoid the pitfalls of catastrophic mirror failure (the auto-dimming mirror was starting to show classic signs of impending failure so it was removed--I still have it and it will be included). It is otherwise ALL-ORIGINAL and in absolutely pristine condition.

How pristine? It was the winner of both the BEST OF SHOW and the JUDGE'S CHOICE awards in the March 2011 Arizona chapter BMW CCA Concours.

If you're looking for one of these, you know how rare these 315 horsepower S54 coupes are (690 built from 02/2001 through 05/2002), especially the final-year 2002 models. This is one of, if not THE best few unmolested examples remaining. I purchased it in August 2008 from an enthusiast/dealer with about 25k miles on it and I have to admit that while I've owned it, it was mostly a garage queen. I hate to sell, but life changes say it's time for it to move on to a new owner.

This coupe was thoroughly inspected at Babbitt Motor Works, an independent BMW specialist in the Phoenix area, and was found to have no mechanical or cosmetic issues and all panels with factory-original paint. All maintenance is up to date and the sale includes all maintenance records. The vehicle has new (2k miles) Yokohama S.drive tires at all four corners on flawless rash-free original BMW roadstar alloy wheels. The undercarriage is as clean and flawless as top side, with all aero management covers and plastic pieces in place and no parts missing or damaged.

Underhood, the S54 engine, too, is super-clean and has always been run with nothing but the factory-specified Castrol TWS synthetic motor oil available from the dealership. Brake fluid and engine coolant are also fresh.

What more can I say? Mechanically and cosmetically this is a fabulous example of this rare and awesome BWM model. If you're a collector (or not) and have always had a desire to own one of these rarities, this is just about as good as it gets.

UPDATE: someone brought to my attention that the AutoCheck report shows an offered-for-sale event in South Carolina dated May, 2010, which is well after I bought the car and brought it to Arizona in 2008. My guess is that this was a clerical error and the May, 2010 date should have been May, 2008, because the car was always in my possession in Arizona, and, in fact, I renewed the tags on it in Arizona in July 2008 as is correctly shown in the report.

My Comments

6/26/11 Update - Relisted on Ebay for $34,900. I still can't believe how clean it is.

5/21/11 Update - Now listed on Ebay with lots and lots of photos. It's one of the cleanest coupes I have ever seen outside, inside, engine bay, undercarriage, everything. Wow!

This is about a good of condition as it gets and he has the trophy to prove it. It's in one of the more sought after color combinations out there, and it's pretty much perfect. It has been well maintained and includes all maintenance records. There's not much not to like. I think the price is fair given it's condition and color combination.
