The original owner in Littleton, Colorado stored the car in a heated garage.  He only drove the car in the summer: 4,000 miles in 4 years.

The car was shipped to Tampa (Lutz), Florida in an enclosed transport in 2004.  I specified and paid for the car to be placed in the upper berth above all other deliveries and not moved until delivery.

There have never been any issues with this car other than replacing the fuel pump under warranty in 2006 (the car ran fine, but there was fuel odor in the cockpit - I believe tightening the connection would have been the remedy, but the BMW dealer replaced the pump and filter behind the passenger seat.  The original manufacturer's warranty was in effect for one year when I bought the car and I purchased an extended 4 year warranty (since expired and with no justifiable need to renew it).

All service is done by me using only BMW fluids and filters.  The oil used is Castrol Motorsport, which BMW requires for M engines:
Oil and filter were changed every 5,000 miles (after several oil analyses reports, the interval was increased to 7,000 miles.  Note: the computer display in the dashboard indicates changes between 10,000 and 15,000 depending on how many engine starts and what RPMs were used during the service cycle.  I choose to change it more often although I only averaged 3,500 miles per year for the past 10 years.  Oil/filter was changed this month as were all other fluids.
Oil samples from oil changes were routinely sent to Blackstone Laboratory for analysis.  All reports are within the specified elements content and properties.
All other fluids (coolant, brake, clutch) were flushed and changed three times: 2004, 2009, 2014 (this month to prep for sale).  Note: distilled water was used to dilute the BMW coolant to 50%
The brake pads are original.  They are less than 50% worn; a testament on how conservatively the car is used.
The tires (225/45ZR17 front, 245/40ZR17 rear) were replaced at 24,700 miles in August 2007 and are less than 50% worn (Toyo Proxis T1R).  They perform as well as the original Michelin Pilot Sports, which wore about twice as fast as the Toyos are wearing.
The battery was replaced in January of 2011 and is under warranty.  The original battery lasted 10 years, likely because it is located away from engine heat under the rear compartment.  The same compartment also holds the original BMW-supplied tool and manuals.
The rear view mirror chromatic fluid was replaced and re-sealed in July 2012 as it had lost part of its self dimming properties.
I installed a BMW front license frame, which is curved to fit the bumper in 2005 to hold my European tag and tag surround from the BMW dealer in my original home town in Spain (the tag remains with me, whereas the frame can accompany the car).  I installed a BMW chrome handbrake button at the same time.
BMW rubber floor mats have protected the original M logo carpet mats since new.
The rear compartment carpet is protected by the BMW logo bag, which came with BMW car cover.
I installed a BMW 6 CD changer (this was the only option not chosen by the original owner) in the empty niche in the rear compartment.  It is controlled remotely by the BMW radio/player in the dash, which also holds/plays a single CD.
The BMW radio "whip" antenna on the roof was replaced by a short one from Audi. The original is in the tool compartment.  Note: radio reception is better with the BMW antenna, whereas the look is better with the Audi antenna.
A new Colgan bra (to protect the front end on a road trip) will accompany the car.  Upon purchase I considered driving the car home, but decided to ship it; eliminating possible road damage and 1,800 miles of mileage.   

This is how I've used the car for 35,000 miles in the past 10 years:
Parking lots - I always park away from everyone else regardless of the walk to a store. There is no damage to the body or paint.
Florida Sun - the car is stored in my garage.  If I'm out, I park in the shade and/or use the windsheild sun shade.  I use the soft BMW car cover when practical.
The paint finish is maintained with German P21s products.
The Leather is maintained with Lexol products.
I use the abundant torque of the S54 engine to shift through the gears at low RPM and engage 5th quickly. With so much power on hand there is little need to down shift to pass or accelerate briskly from 5th gear.  You are not considering this car for gas mileage, but note that this driving style yields >30mpg and places less stress on the drivetrain.
I do not down-shit to slow the car; I use the brakes with intermittent on/off application to cool the rotors.
I'm easy on the clutch upon take-off and in-between gear changes. I place the car in neutral when stopped.
I use all switch gear, handles, and locks with care and deliberate action, e.g.  in closing doors (also never shut or open door using the window, use door handle), opening/closing hood and rear compartment, turning on/off cockpit switches, etc.

Note: I did run up against the rev limiter once, reaching 155 mph (the factory limit is accurate) before ignition was cut off by the limiter, and have occasionally raced across the multi-lane bridge between Tampa and St. Petersburg at high speed; when practical and when in the mood.

If the car is maintained and driven correctly, it will continue to increase in value.  This is 1 out of 11 Titanium Silver, MCoupes produced in 2001 (the total 2001/2002 US production is 690 units with the S54 engine).
