Turning Off the Rear Wiper

November 9th, 2011

BMW M Coupes

Since mentioning that after driving in my first hard rain on the way to Dorkfest and having to call my friend to ask how to turn off the rear wiper, I’ve had several inquiries about how to actually do it. Several long time coupe owners say they just turn their car off and on and it resets it :). There’s a simpler way as you probably expect. Well, it’s actually quite simple, just very frustrating if you don’t know what the wiper is doing.

Press the wiper stalk forward once to turn it on (I’m sure you know that part). Press it forward again to turn it off (yep, that’s all). What confused me (and everyone else) is that when you do press the stalk forward to turn it off, it will immediately do another swipe (just for confusion?), but then it will stay off. It’s that last swipe that gets you and makes you think it’s still going.

The other solution is to just “delete” the rear wiper and associated hardware, but that’s another story…
